Information for Presenters

This page contains information about handouts, PDF/PowePoint presentations, posters, and proceedings.

Handouts

If you plan on distributing handouts for your talk, please make between 40 and 75 copies. The conference is organized so that all day Friday (April 4) and Sunday (April 6) will have two parallel sessions, and all day Saturday will have three parallel sessions. If your talk is scheduled for Friday or Sunday, we recommend that you make 60-75 copies of the handout; if it's scheduled for Saturday, the number we recommend is 40-50 copies.

We strongly recommend that you bring all copies of the handout with you. There is a commercial photocopy service close to Beckman (the conference venue), but it will be closed on Sunday. If you need to make copies during the conference days, please ask at the registration desk for directions.

Please make sure that the copies of your handout are available by the entrance to the room where the session is held during the break before the session.

PDF/Powerpoint Presentations

All rooms will be equipped with a Windows PC laptop and a Mac laptop, both of which will have with Microsoft Powerpoint and Acrobat Reader. The laptops will be connected to the room's audiovisual system. Although we will provide laptop computers, you can choose to do the presentation on your own laptop.

If you plan on doing a PDF or PowerPoint presentation, we strongly recommend that you use your own laptop, if possible. This will be the best way to avoid issues with nonstandard fonts, software, etc.

If you plan on doing the presentation using your own laptop, please ask at the registration desk for instructions as soon as possible on Friday (April 4, or on Saturday if you arrive on that day.) We need to make sure that your laptop can work with our audiovisual system, and we would like to do this well in advance of your presentation, to avoid any last minute complications that may arise.

If you plan on using our laptops, we strongly recommend that you send us your presentation by email (lsrl-38@uiuc.edu) before the conference starts on April 4. The sooner you can send it to us, the more chances we'll have to ensure that everything is OK. Please also send any special fonts, software, sound files, etc. that will be needed for your presentation.

If you can't send your presentation before the conference dates, please ask at the registration desk for instructions as soon as possible on Friday (April 4, or on Saturday if you arrive on that day.) We will make sure that your presentation works with our computers, and we would like to do this well in advance of your presentation, to avoid any last minute complications that may arise.

Posters

The LSRL 38 Poster Session will be held on Saturday, April 5, from 12:00 to 1:30pm. The session will be held during lunch at the Atrium in Beckman (the conference venue). The meal will be catered and is included in the registration fee, so we expect most or all conference attendants to be present.

You can post your posters at any time on Friday or in the morning of Saturday, but please make sure that everything is ready by 11:30am Saturday, to avoid any unnecessary delays.

We strongly recommend that you post your posters some time on Friday, so that you can maximize the amount of time that people will be able to see them. All posters must be taken down by 6:30pm on Saturday.

You will attach the posters to panels with push pins. We will provide both the panels and the push pins. The size of the panels is 4' high by 8' wide. The posters can be as large or small as you want, as long as they don't exceed the panel size.
